If you're using an abrasive polish to remove scratches, what you're actually doing is removing paint so that the top level of the paint is even with the bottom of the scratch. This is how the scratch is removed. If the polish is capable of removing paint then it would easily remove the wax you just put on. So, what you want to do is wax afterward.
are u removing paint or clearcoat? i coulda sworn when we polish we are slowly removing clearcoat since most of the swirls are in the clearcoat. if a scratch goes deper you can lighten it, but not remove it cuase it may go beyond the clearcoat.

this is what i thoguht anyways.

So polishing too much will eat away the clear coat and paint?

Strictly speaking, yes, that's certainly possible. However, it's impossible for me to imagine a hobbyist (or even a professional) detailer polishing a car so many times that the clear coat disappears solely as a result of the polishing. When you do paint correction, the amount of paint you remove is actually pretty small. We're not talking about starting with 120 microns of paint and ending up with 80.

Now, if someone unskilled in the use of a *rotary* buffer works on a car, then sure, they can punch right through the clearcoat and into the basecoat, or even the primer or the sheetmetal. So don't let anyone like that touch your car.
