303 vs Ragg Top
OK. After using 303 on my top for the last year or so, I decided to try some Ragg Top. A local store near me had begun to carry it this summer. So, I thought why not? Everyone here owns a vinyl topped convertible. So, I thought I would share my thoughts.
I always thought 303 was a great protectant for my top. When applied properly it does not run off and looks great. The finish is matte and IMO looks great on the S2K top. The 303 vinyl cleaner works OK. It always requires scrubbing to get any stains off the top and does not remove a lot of stains often. Also, the nice look of the top after application seems to fade away quickly. If it rains soon after it's gone immediately. I really like the heavy duty UV protection that 303 adds.
Ragg Top is also great, possibly greater than 303. I applied the RT according to the provided instructions (same technique as 303) and it was very easy to use. It made my top slightly more shiney than 303, but it could still be considered a matte finish. The RT vinyl cleaner was much stronger than the 303 and easily removed all the dirt/stains from my top. Not that there were many stains. The RT protectant actually smelled a lot like Rain-X to me and really seemed to bond quickly with the vinyl. Also, it rained today and the water beaded on the top much better than it had with 303. According to the RT website RT does provide UV protection, but I couldn't find out to what degree.
All together, I think I liked the Ragg Topp better. I used them both with identical methods, but I like the way the Ragg Topp beads the water. The look of the top was after application very comparable between the two. However, the look of the Ragg Top seems to last much longer.

great report...
the only missing product, imo, is vinylex.
my preference is raggtopp or vinylex- i have 303 and also use it, but find it that it does not distribute as well as vinylex or raggtopp.
on cloth, its raggtopp for cloth all the way!
have used the porsche top stuff- and like it on cloth too, but havent used it for quite awhile now.

I originally bought 303 because it seemed like either 303 or Ragg Top was the product of choice in this forum. It was too close to call which was preferred so I tried 303. However, as I stated I wasn't happy with the endurance of the product. The Ragg Top seems to bond much better with the top and doesn't rinse away as easily. I would imagine Ragg Top would beat out other protectants when it comes to endurance as well as other products in this category seem to have a similar formula to 303.
Going on my 4th year with 303. Many people ask how I keep my top looking the way it does. I've never had a durability issue with 303. Unlike aronparsons, I like the fact that I only need one protectant for my top, plastic pieces and tires. No reason to replace it for me.
I have Raggtop and use it once in a while. I will say I prefer their canvas top protectant better than the vinyl.

Personally, I tend to specialize when it comes to products. I use this one here and that one there, etc. I have so many different things in my garage it's silly. I'm not sure why I do it. I guess I just like certain areas of the car to look a certain way and no one product covers it all. For instance, I like my tires to look super glossy, but I like my dash to look matte.

I use RaggTop for canvas on my Porsche and RaggTop for vinyl on my S2000, both are great products IMHO. I use the RaggTop vinyl on my interior as well as exterior eventhough it says on the container for outside use and so far I have not seen an detrimental effects.
Great report. Like wanabe said, I'd be interested in hearing how vinylex stacks up. It's what I've used since I purchased the vehicle, and it's been used on the interior, tires, wheel wells, exterior trim, etc. as well as the top. It's been great for me. But I've always been curious about 303 and raggtop because of the reports here. I just haven't finished off my supply of vinylex yet to have a chance to try anything else.
