I'm not talking about the underside edge of the rocker panel - that's pretty obvious. I'm talking about the crappy respray job the shop did (which you can also see in the door in this pic)...

Damn, who sprayed that? Someone needs a refresher course on prep and application.

Looks like the guy spraying it had a seizure or something...

So I attacked the door today. Yesterday I did the driver side fender from the trim line down, as well as a couple of touchups I'd painted last year but never got around to smoothing out.

Tomorrow will be about the buff out, but for now I give you this...

Testing a spot to see if my 1500-2000-OHC by hand revealed significant OP reduction:

My basic setup:

Sanded...and that shiny spot - polished out BY HAND. ouch. Still some minor sanding marks but it was too late to fire up the rotary

Sanded...

Insane? Yes.

I was going to remove the mirror and door handle, but that involves taking out the window glass and I just did NOT feel up to that. I think those tight areas will be a combo of PC 4" pad and hand polishing. Fun fun...

I polished out the fender areas with a yellow durastrand pad and OHC... For being as aggressive as OHC is, it finishes down like nothing else. No hazing, no micromarring that I could detect. I followed up with a RMG + 106FF combo...

wetsanding completed.. buffed out

looks like I might have done TOO good of a job, since the door is noticably flatter than the fender and quarter panel. Oh well, I can live with it

Polished out with MULTIPLE 1500rpm passes with a yellow durastrand foam pad, Optimum Hyper Compound... Finished with 1500rpm blue finishing pad and a mix of RMG and 106FF... Sealed with AIO, topped with Souveran... mmmm tasty.

On the rocker I used the PC with a 4" yellow SFX1 pad and hyper compound. Took about 3 passes. Very nice.

I'm glad that's over with. Now to polish out the other side of the car (no more wetsanding for me).

Very nice write up and pics. I would like to ad though... to anyone that doesn't have experience with wetsanding be very careful with 1500 grit. Especially on factory clear. It takes clear off a lot faster than you realize.
