Default Am I Waxing Right?

hey guys i was just wondering.

after I wax my car its super slick and some of the scratches are even "covered".

however the very next wash it seems to sorta lose everything. the surface is slick no more and some of the scratches seem to re appear.

im using meguiars nxt 2.0 paste wax. i apply it. let it dry a bit then use a micofiber to buff it off.

just seems like after i wash it with (meguiars gold class) im washing all the wax off.

am i doing something wrong? or is it normal.

i'm no expert but it seems like normal wearing off to me. How often do you wash your car? Does it sit outside exposed to the elements? NXT usually lasts 2-3 weeks from my experience with it, great OTC wax.

it varies but about ever 1-2 weeks depending on schedule.

and it "seems" to wear off the very next wash. its gonna get tiresome having to re wax every wash/

What are you using to wash the car with? Car soap? or something else?

Some car soaps will remove the wax very easily with every wash.

Edit....
sorry....I skimmed through what you typed and missed the car soap part.

The Meguiars Gold Class car wash is too strong if you want to keep a longer lasting waxed finish. Try something more PH balanced like the pink Meguiars Soft Wash Gel.

Two questions, Harry:

1) Are you allowing NXT to dry completely? It usually needs 15-30 minutes to dry completely, depending on temperature and humidity. Use the Swipe Test.

2) Are you using the correct amount of Gold Class shampoo, namely, 1 oz. per gallon? Gold Class is a gentle car shampoo when used at the proper dilution ratio and should not be compromising your wax protection.

NXT wax should not be "washing off" after only one wash with a properly diluted shampoo. It should maintain its shine for many weeks, even after multiple washes--at least that is the experience of most NXT users. I am perplexed why you are experiencing this problem.

I have never used NXT car shampoo, but I know it has many advocates. Among MOL members, NXT shampoo runs a close second to Gold Class shampoo. If you want to use a non-Meguiar's shampoo, try Duragloss Car Wash 901. If you still have the same problem even after changing car washes, then you will know that something else is at work.

i will re evaluate my procedure tomorrow. and measure out the wash as accurately as possible as well as allowing ample time for the wax to dry and well see how it goes.

One other suggestion: if you are the kind of person who wants to maintain that "just waxed" look (I'm like that, too), then consider using Ultimate Quik Wax after every wash or every other wash. It complements and supports NXT very well and is so very easy to apply and remove.

From the various reports I have read, most people seem to be getting two to three months durability from NXT for their daily drivers, depending, of course, on the harshness of the environment, whether the car is garaged, how often and how the vehicle is washed, etc. UQW will not only restore and maintain the NXT shine but should also extend NXT's protective abilities.
