Default anybody use meguiares #40 ?

i have some meguiars #40 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner
but have not used it yet.... does anyone know how well this stuff works?
id really hate to mess up my top.. it says it cleans etc etc, but says nothing about protecting. also, do you guys just wet down your top before applying 303 or whatever, or do you wash the top off a bit (like with a mit/soap that you would use to wash your car?)?

i havent used it either... my recollection is that you also need a preservative with it, but not positive- maybe one of our meg guys can chime in here.

wash your top before any cleaner/protectant- i like a good brush and regular car shampoo. then dry it... soak a rag away from the car with vinylex, 303 or raggtopp vinyl and rub it in really well. let it sit awhile- i do the rest of the car at this point. then come back and buff it out twice with clean rags.

I have a bottle of Megs #40 on my shelf. It's there . . . somewhere.

Anyway, Megs #40 is a vinyl/plastic protectant with some cleaning ability. While I've never used it on my roof, I will say that it's a good product. I used to use it on my dashboard way back, but it was a little greasy IMO and shined too much for my taste.

You're definitely not going to hurt your top with #40. So, I say give it a shot! As wanabe said, application technique is important. Never spray #40 directly on the top. Make sure the top is clean (use car wash soap) & dry first then soak a rag (or my favorite a foam applicator) with some #40 and use that to apply liberally to the top. Let it dry for a few minutes and then buff the top really well with a microfiber towel or a clean terry towel. Make sure to buff really well or you will get run off the next time it rains.

okay thats what i thought...

i used it on my friends MR2 today.... WOW what a diffrence. the car has 44k HIGHWAY miles and the top had NEVER been washed.. it was something else. the top looked like lepord skin... she actually was about a day away from just purchasing a brand new top it looked so bad .. but before that i asked her to let me give it a shot. i scrubbed litterally for about an hour and a half, rag after rag... i used about 13? rags total on her roof alone, all came out black with dirt.. anyway it looks GREAT now, completely black. i am most def. gonna give it a shot on my car. man i wish i could have taken some before and after photos... anyway i duno how much that says about the cleaner or just the owner not taking care...

thanks guys!
