So, my dad has a new 06 Explorer, and he got that scotch guard stuff put on the paint and interior by the dealer to protect the clear coat, and warranty it.
Anyways, when you're on the highway, the water beads up on the windows so well that you literally don't even need to use windshield wipers in even pouring rain (i did this and was driving when it happened) because it just blows right off just like an airplane would.
My question:
I use Stoner's Invisi-glass and it beads fine. but it doesn't blow off like on my dads explorer, so I was just wondering if you guys had any ideas, or products to use that will aid me in this.
One thing to consider is that the water may bead, but our windshield isnt sloped back as far as many cars. That would prevent it from rolling off as much.
I have applied rainx, and sometimes a wax or sealant to the outer glass before. My old celica would roll the water right off. The S, not so much. It still does, just not to the same degree.
my PIAA wiper blades came with this silicone/alcohol wiping cloth to treat the windshield with. the blades themselves are silicone too. water beads right up after using these.
you can use KLASSE AIO to treat your side and rear windows as well. for some reason they recommend against the windshield but im sure you can do it. i think i read this in www.properautocare.com
I also recommend rainX. I did a test last year coating one side of the windshield with AIO and the other with rainX....rainX hands down beaded and water blew off the windshield 2x faster.
i trust rain-x so much that i finally removed the wipers (have not used them in years) !!
(its true that the car doesnt see much rain, but when it does i only need wipers when it really pours... and that hasnt happened for several years now)
Wow.. The only reason I never picked up Rain-x was because it was OTC, and around here there isn't very many good OTC products out. I will deffinately be claying-stoners-rain-x at some point when I wash my car again. (Can't justify washing it and waxing it right before a rain storm's supposed to come in).
The other option is Aquapel...I haven't tried it myself yet (it's on my list of products to try), but I know many people swear by it and say that it far superior to RainX.
