Default A Beginner

Hi Guys,

I know the first thing people are going to say is use the search button, but there is simply too much information, and all the tutorials I've looked at require products.
So my question to you is, as a first time carwasher / detailer, what should I go out and buy in order to look after my S2? Just a list of things that will make it sparkle and shine. I have no idea where to start, clay bars, polish, automatic, manual, grid guards, detergents etc. I'm completely lost. Prices would also be great

Also, would I be better off going to one of those self-serve car washes or to buy my own gear?

Regards and thanks in advance.

I would look on some detailing websites. Detailers Domain and Properautocare.com have some helpful info for beginners with the products to get you started and pricing. Properautocare has excellent descriptions of their products with detailed instructions and pictures of cars they have detailed. I prefer to hand wash my cars but on ocassion, especially in winter, I have run them through a brushless car wash with no issues.

Here's a way to get started that does not involve the investment of lots of money: Your Daily Driver: A Simple Wash & Wax Regimen. Meguiar's products are recommended in the article because the article was composed for a Meguiar's audience, but other products could easily be substituted; but Meguiar's stuff does have the advantage of being readily available and are a good value for the money.

The important thing is to adopt a regimen and stick with it. Don't allow the car to go weeks and weeks without being washed. Don't allow the car to go six months without being waxed. Etc., etc.

The regimen outlined in this article will keep your S2K looking good.
