HEADLIGHT RESTORATION

Some one in our local community did this. Scary at the beginning but turned out amazing.

I just did this last night, and same sort of process. I just went to the local auto store, bought some 2000 grit sand paper, the Maguire's headlight restoration kit (paste, rag, polishing drill piece).

I started off by very lightly wet sanding a small portion of the headlight to remove all the surface scratches. When I wiped it clean it scared the shit out of me, I thought I ruined my headlights. They were very fogged up, and had blotches on them. I was happy I did it on a small portion of the light... But I figured might as well try the polishing paste and buff wheel. Put some paste on the headlight where I sanded, and by hand buffed out the area with the wheel. Wiped it clean and it was nearly perfectly clear... I was shocked and impressed. Cleaned up the rest of the lights by first wet sanding them all down and then cleaning them up, and then polish with the buffing wheel in a low speed drill. Amazing is all I can say, just like new!

Don't hesitate to do it this way. Freaks you out at first, but the final results are worth it. The headlights look brand new.

I've done this personally on two of my older cars, works perfectly everytime... It's a little work but well worth it.

I bought Turtle Wax's headlight kit and I am thoroughly amazed. This was used on our old DD Elantra. The headlights were pretty abysmal and now they are near factory fresh.

I forgot what my brother used but it's a type of shoe cleaner that helps clean clear soles and works really great with headlights.
Lol I was watching a show on spike tv just now, they showed using toothpaste to do a good job clearing up headlights.

ok, so my '02 headlights are crystal clear, and its because i plastic polish them every other wash or so with Zaino

question is, do they have any UV protectant out on the market, that will protect the plastic from the sun, which causes the oxidation? Something to apply after poilishing?

I used 3M rubbing compound with a terry cloth applicator yesterday. Worked so good. The headlights look shiny and new. They were sunbaked before.
