Default Blotches on the dashboard

The topic says it all. On my used 2001 Silverstone I've tried (at different times) a number of different cleaners and protectants including...

Original Armor All (I was young, forgive me)
Armor All Cleaning Formula
Klasse Interior Protectant (forget the exact name)
303 Aerospace protectant.

I've put them on heavy and thin with sponges, terry cloth and micro-fibers.

Every time I wind up with a dash that's blotchy, that is, different levels of shiny and dull. I don't notice any particular area staying shiny or dull. I've never had a problem like this with any other car. In fact, I don't even have this problem on the door panels or other interior vynil surfaces.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I've never had that problem but i don't just leave it to dry. I always buff any vinyl protectant with a MF towel after a few minutes.

i am wondering too whether you buff the product off or not...
if you are and you still have the "spots" then you might have something on the dash that needs to be removed (old product).

a product like autoglym interior shampoo would be one choice to wash the dash- then reapply a good product.
my suggestions for the dash are vinylex, 303, raggtopp, or autoglym. after the cleaning, apply the product by spraying it on a rag (not on the dash) and buffing it in good. let it sit a while and then buff it again.
after that, report back!!

I use Meguiars "Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant". Spray it on an MF cloth & rub it in completely til dry.

what are the blotches, understanding what the stuff is makes all the difference...

edit: didn't see that it was mainly a sheen issue

This being so, it could be old stuff on there, try cleaning everything off to start, let it dry and then go over with a new product.

Thanks all. I haven't been buffing after application. I will give that a shot. Also, I'll use some Raggtopp to remove any remainin previous material that might be causing the uneven sheen.

For interior cleaning, Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner, cut 10:1 with water. It'll get the gunk out

Also, I've tried the Sonus Cockpit Detailer with good results. I was less impressed with the results of the Meguiar's Interior QD, but it did leave a nice finish and worked beautifully on clear plastic (head unit, for example).
