Default Can't see the wax when applying!!!

I cannot see wax as it is applied to my car. It makes me want to use way too much. Which I do. It looks like I'm taking it off with the same wipe as I put it on.
Can someone offer a suggestion or two, I don't want to waste good (expensive) wax.
Am I pressing too hard with the towel? Should I get an orital buffer? Not a high speed one, but like a Wal-Mart type deal.

Need help...

How much would one of these Porter Cable machines cost me?
And for now, while I don't have a buffer. Should I put a little on the Meguier's sponge pad thingy and try to make that work for the whole car? Otherwise I will use almost half of the bottle, which I know is too much.
Is there a chance that wax will show up under a black light or something? I'm trying to fix a huge problem (for me at least).
Thanks...

porter cables are around $100, plus pads (about $10 each).
you might also try very slightly damp and very soft cotton cloth (with no seams or sewn edges). do very small sections as you apply... and try to keep the amount of product even.
i still prefer the machine, but the old fashioned hand method works if you are careful.

I give it the sniff test. It's almost impossible to see Zaino go on a light colored car, so to see if I'm actually getting any product on, I occassionally sniff the paint. If it smells like Zaino, it's going on.

Great idea surf.
I figured out that at the right time of day when the sun is shining at an angle, I can see the wax with some straining.

Thanks again...
