Default Clay bar Q

Hey guys I plan on detailing my S this coming weekend or sooner if I have time( car has lots of swirls and needs a good shine) So I bought a few new things to clean her. I bought a mothers clay bar, mothers polish, mothers wax and a few new micro fibers. I have never used a clay bar before on a car and not to sure on how to other than the directions provided from mothers. Any tips? I heard mothers was a good brand. Any one use them before and had good results?

thanks
seb

heres a good how to:

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-clay.html

another tip- clay is not the same as polish... if you want to do both, clay first.

more questions, post em up!

and after you do the job, take some pics, post those up and pm me for your wash n wax badge...

Just make sure you keep the bar clean and keep kneeding it. Also use the lub very liberally.

Do you have a PC?

If you drop the clay on the ground then throw it away. I always cut my clay bar in pieces so that if I drop that part of it I still can use the other pieces.

Take your mother's claybar, and while it is in the bag, cut it with a kitchen knife into thirds. Use 1/3rd at a time. You drop one, chuck it, and move on. If your car isnt bad, you wont need more than that 1/3rd, and you can save the rest for next time.

pc= porter cable = random orbital machine that we use for polishing... you will need this to remove swirls.
best way to get one is to post up in your local forum that you need one with an operator to teach you how... you offer to supply refreshments and products (ask what you need to buy)- works great from the feedback that i get. you get to learn to use the machine and your car is brand new again- bonus is the new friend that you will make!
