OK just to make extra sure before I order anything. Is the top a Fabric Top or a Vinyl Top? My two choices are:

Yes, just use car wash soap on it when you wash the rest of the car. It is vinyl. A good car wash soap (nothing harsh like a detergent or dish washing liquid) will not hurt it. When I wash the car I just dry the top like I do the rest of the car (I use an Absorber towel) and the left over water in the "weave" of the vinyl dries pretty quickly. When I treat it, I put the 303 on a sponge and wipe it. A rag would work just as well. Don't overdo the 303 application, use enough to evenly coat it and not leave streaks on the top. Once it soaks in, I lightly rub it with a soft towel to take off any excess or even out any areas.
Would it be okay to use dish washing soap to clean it the first time before applying 303/raggtopp?

I'm using the Mother's Back to Black stuff to clean my top and I apply it with my microfiber sponge. I bought that since it's the closest thing I could find to a convertible top cleaner. It does seem to make the top more black and shiny, but I feel I'm not using enough of the product because some parts are more black than others. I'll do another run in the morning after I wash my car and probably use the rest of the product.

It's probably "OK", but I wouldn't do it. How do you keep the dishwashing soap from washing other stuff on the car (like you newly waxed paint)? And it not necessary. Just wash it with car wash soap when you wash the car. The 303 treatment is not something you need to do each time you wash the car. I do mine about twice a year or when I want to bring the darkness of it back.

I use Mother's Preserves Protectant and think it works great. It's what Mother's recommends for a vinyl convertible top.

I would go as far as saying that any product made for automotive vinyl is alright to use. I personally use 303, but most interior "protectant" would be okay.
