Default Cleaning Volks

Looking at hopefully picking up these rims in this FS thread:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=413921

My question is, does it look like the wheels can be cleaned up? I am mainly concerned about the road tar, etc. If so, what steps do I need to take to get the polished lip all sparkly and shiny again?

The dirt on the metal can be polished out. The stuff on the spokes look like scratches though. I wouldnt spend $1400 on those rims.

they can absolutely be cleaned up... you wont be able to get rid of the scratches or curb rash- but you can have the wheels repaired if you want to.

i would start with p21s wheel wash (its a good but still mild enough for your clear coat cleaner) and a wheel brush- scrub them, rinse them and then do it again-
that will get the wheels looking much better. you could use a tar remover (for car paint) if the p21s doesnt get it all. then you should put on either wheel wax or a synthetic (finish first, zaino, klasse) protectant-

some choices on the tar remover:

finally, dont cheap out on the products, cause you dont want to damage the wheels by cleaning them.

one thing to note is that it looks like the lips were clear coated and are peeling - either that, or there's some sort of etching on the polished lips... Assuming the metal is bare, that should polish/clean up easily...

You definitely CAN clean them up and make them look BETTER, but in that condition, I'd offer less than asking.
