Default Clear coat help needed.

I was washing my car with a sponge that had apparently gotten something not all that smooth on it. Car looks fine most of the time, but when the light hits it just right, you can see really fine lines that almost look like they are 3d, like they are popping out at you, especially when it is clean.

So it's about time for another zaino treatment and Im just wondering if it will fix it, specifically the z5. It says it removes swirl marks and fine scratches. Anyone ever had the same problem as me or anyone know if z5 will fix my problem?

you have swirls!!

a swirl cover is a great place to start... if you can cover them so that they dont bother you, thats the first thing to try!
if the cover doesnt work, you will have to use a swirl remover-

yep. z5 is what you want. it's not a permanent treatment, but using a swirl remover takes just a bit of the clear coat off so you only wanna do this when it worsens.

you should also take a look into what is actually causing the swirls. if it's something in your cleaning routine that's scratching your car, take care of that first. it could be something as simple as what you're using to dry it has a rock or a few grains of sand or something.

good point wortham!
i forgot to mention that-
i would throw away the sponge, or at least not use it on your car.
my first choice is a good lambswool mitt- rinse it well before and after using, and dont let it touch the ground!

yeah I found out my dad had used the sponge on the wheel wells of his corvette

Got a new one though. So what is a swirl remover? Is it basically rubbing compound?

Swirl remover is more like a heavy polish. Whatever you do, do not get a Rubbing compound! That's much to harsh. 3M makes a very good swirl remover. It comes in two versions. One for light colored cars and another for dark. It can be applied by hand or with a machine polisher.

I use z5 to fill in or hide swirls.

I use my PC w/ 3M SMR swirl mark remover to remove swirls.

I use my PC w/ 3M FCC fine cut compound and do not find it to be harsh for those tough swirls and scratches.
