Default Clearing Headlights

hey all, just a little issue with clearing the haze out of my headlights:

So I started off with a 1500 grit wetsand followed by an orbital buffer with Meguiar's PlastX. Everything looked good when I was finished but when I came back to my car I was surprised to see extra haze return to the headlights! It looks like the marks made by the sanding came back, so I redid the buffing with only partial returns. Can anyone help me remedy this issue? Did I do something wrong with the sanding process? If so, is it permanent? I'll try to get pics up in the morning. Thanks all!

I would try sanding it up to a 2000 and if you can find some 3000 grit in your area use that as well. Plastx is not aggressive enough to take out the scratches even if you use it with an orbital. I would use plastx more as a cleaner than any polish. Its just aggressive enough to take out 1500 grit scratches.

is there anyway you can get your hands on some compound or a more abrasive polish?

let me know if you have any other questions.

Are you doing this by hand or machine? You definitely need a heavier compound to take out the 1500 grit sanding marks, and then follow that up with a finishing polish to remove any compounding haze.

What are some examples of said heavier compounds? I have Zaino Z2 + ZFX if that works.

zaino z2 and zaino zfx are not good for this application. those are not abrasive at all. Those would usually be used as a final step or show car polish.

for your headlights, try to stay away from using the plastx after wetsanding its not gonna do much until you get rid of those scratches.

you can go to your local pep boys or advanced auto parts and they should have some decent compounds you can use if you dont want to to order any online. turtle wax makes a pretty aggressive compound and so does meguiars.

here is the link for the turtle wax compound that will work
http://www.turtlewax.com/main.taf?p=2,1,4,23

then you can finish off with a zaino on your buffer. and then finish off with plastx by hand.

if you are willing to order, i have plenty you can just order from me. I carry primarily CarBrite products.

This may not help your situation now, but when I had a 92 Eclipse I had a horrible problem with the headlights hazing really badly. I used Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish with a microfiber towel and alot of elbow grease. They looked almost new by the time I was done. Anyone else with the hazing problem should give that a try and let us know if it works.

yea thats not going to work as he already wetsanded and took off all of the hazing. Now he just needs to buff it out with a compound.

I'll try the turtle wax tomorrow as that is most accessible. If that doesn't work I'll order from you Hankook. thanks for all the feedback!
