Dead Spots
Somehow I just noticed this......
On my hood as well as a spot on my door there are dead spots in my clearcoat. And by dead spots , I mean little to no sheen and it is actually rough to the touch. The dead spot on the hood runs almost all the way up the left side and into the middle. It seems to follow a line about an inch from the end of the hood, parallel, all the way up, to about mid way through the hood, like it follows a tapeline..... Its really noticeable at night under lights other wise you would have to know its there during the day. I thought a good buildup of wax may aid the situation. That didn't help. My friend thought I should clay it, however, correct me if I'm wrong, I thought clay actually removes a thin layer of clear to expose "clean" umblemished coating below it.
What the hell should I do to fix this?

A mild clay will not remove any clearcoat.
Some pics of the possible clearcoat failure would aid us in giving you some advice of the course of action to take.
Have you tried polishing it at all with a PC?
Maybe there's just some kind of residue that washing isn't removing?

I will take pics after my next wash, unfortunately theres rain and more rain in the forecast for the next day or two in VA and I don't have a garage. Its more easily seen after a wash and wax.
I have not tried a PC yet. I don't believe its a residue as i have tried rigorously to rub it out without doing any damage. I got to apoint where I felt like I would do more harm than good.
As soon as I get some pics together I will shoot them right over. This is really frustrating me and I really need some assistance...

on the same page here w/ slanguage-
1. post pics
2. clay removes imbedded particles and roughness
3. polish should get what clay can't
if it is really bad clearcoat, only a reclear -body shop- will fix it.
post up pics- close, from an angle, etc first

I know OF a couple, unfortunately I have a demanding work schedule, and I work at unorthodox times.....(I just got out of work about 30 minutes ago, I was there since 3 pm yesterday
) It makes it very difficult to get out to any gatherings and actually meet these gentlemen. I'll try and get some pictures on later today. It stopped raining an hour or so ago, and I think I should have a little window of goodness to sneak some pictures in.
