Dealing with winter grime / road salt
Wackos -
I was wondering how you all would approach treating a car that has been (repeatedly) exposed to road salt, cinders, slush, ice, etc...
I drive my car in the winter and more often than not, the crap dries on the car and looks awful. The appearance is just part of the issue. I'm always afraid i'm going to F-up the clearcoat & paint if I aggressively remove the stuff.
So - what is the best way to remove dried on road salt without damaging my paint? Thanks everyone,
DC

Hmmm...
For me, I would probably rinse the car off really well first. Then try some sort of foaming no-touch car soap or something like that and rinse again. Just to try to get some of the grim off first before you start rubbing it in.
I'm not really sure. They don't use salt up here.
I'm sure Phil from DetailersDomain will have some ideas too, along with the other wackos.

I'm basically going on a no-contact plan lately. I take it to a high pressure car wash and blast it with high pressure soap (mixed with water) and then a water rinse. no drying - just drive away.
I'm glad to hear at least one person kind-of agrees with my method. haha

I would do that first just to get away as much grime as possible. But then I would still do a regular wash with the 2 bucket method. That'll ensure that you really get everything cleaned up.
Probably wouldn't hurt to do a good clay bar session too.
