Thumbs up Devil's advocate: NuFinish/Turtle Wax

At the expense of probably offending lots of folks on here... what's so bad about NuFinish & Turtle Wax? OK yeah, there are probably lots of folksy people using them on rusted out '76 Pintos and all, but all stigma aside, is there anything fundamentally wrong with these waxes?

I've tried Zaino, Zymol, P21S, Meguiar's, Mother's, Turtle Wax (this was probably 9 years ago now)... P21S seemed to have the best shine, a kinduva wet look, but everything else looked about the same. Zymol seemed to burn off pretty dang quickly, and Zaino doesn't seem to have that *pop* to it. My buddy's car is sponsored by Meguiar's and I've never seen a shinier car, ever. What's wrong with Meguiar's for that matter??

I'm starting out with Zaino again on the S2K I just bought, but if a generic wax or other wax will do 95% of what Zaino does... I just don't see the bang for the buck!

Opinions/thoughts/comments?

you are right- its all opinion...

some of us are trying for 110% rather than 90%-
and we recognize that most normal folks (as in "non-wacko") just take their cars to the car wash and dont worry about swirls, water spots, haze, etc.
for them turtle wax is too much work!

i have used nufinish and turtle waxes (not just once, but full bottles) in the past. nufinish was my product of choice in the early/mid 90s- dont tell anyone, but i even used armor-all!!
in my opinion, there are now better products for a perfectionist... but again, its opinion.

one of the things that makes the w&w such a great community is that we try really hard not to judge each other. we accept different opinions, and try to understand when we differ.

you should use what you like, take pics, and post em up- you dont have to use the same product as another guy to be a wacko, or to qualify to wear our badges!

Not sure how true this is but back in the day I recall someone telling me that the harder the effort you need to remove the product, the stronger the bond it has on your finish. Still, there's a limit to how much effort I'm willing to make considering the options/choices we have now.
I grew up hereing this same thing. The old rain Dance and Blue Coral waxes were the ones we always associated with this story.

Right! In my experience, all the waxes I've listed will minimize swirl marks, knock out water spots and haze. The only difference is P21S seems to give the paint a wet-ish look, at least to me.

That's true though--that Turtle Wax was sure difficult to remove. Made you wonder if you were going to MAKE swirls instead of taking them out...

With proper prepping of the paint, most poducts will have the similar look. Dollar wise, it would make no sense going up to the boutique lines, you are paying a lot more for marginal improvements.

Now that being said, here is my collection:
