Default do you tip the car waxer guy?

So I'm going to pay about $250 to get my car waxed. The dude said it will take pretty much the entire day, he has to clay it and all that jazz. I've never been to a prof. waxer/detailer before, let alone pay that much for what amounts to a glorified car wash. But I do need a coat of wax to protect the paint, etc, so...the question is, for paying that much? do you guys still tip the dude?

Depends. I never tip the owner. If it's an employee, I do, if not, then all the money is his (payment.)

Now, if the person, regardless of status does something extra, then I will tip, or maybe get them some beers.

It depends on the work performed and if he went out extra on anything.

I have gotten tips from some people and not from some.

i used to do detailing through college. if you are paying an individual then, no a tip is not necessary. if its a guy working for a shop or something, and he goes out of his way to really do more than he has to, then yes.

well if he does great job and you amazed by results and you talking to guy who did the job then probably tip him if you gona come back. we got tips in mail couple times after a week when car was gone couse customer was simply amazed what we did with the car (in our case it was full paint correction on NSX). but regardless, if you happy and you want to come back then im sure next time he would do something extra.
i worked at computer repair place and got tips couple times, next time that customer was in i usually did something extra for free

I got a nice tip today. The customer was very happy with his detail and I did a few things he was not expecting. As a result, I will be doing 2 more of his cars and he is putting me on his community's website which will mean more business. So, a good job and a few little surprises not only means a nice tip but an opportunity to grow my retiree detailing business at the beach. Beats working at Wa Wa.
