Default Engine cleaning-your thought's

Hello!

I went to my dealer yesterday and asked about cleaning my engine. The dealer was very reluctant indicating that there are specialty businesses that can do a better job. That and they are hesitant to clean S2000's because of the problems that may happen afterwards.

Well, I'm certainly not taking my car to anyone other than a Honda dealer. Hence, what are your suggestions for cleaning my engine?

All suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks-Rob.

What's wrong with just soaping the engine down and rinsing it off with a hose?

degreasers and petrolum aren't a good mix

petrolum being your belts and radiator hose etc

it will basically break down the parts

Not sure on the results on pressurized water and how well it will work, or use a mild soap

You can clean the rubber hoses with water, then apply silicon lubricant to prolong it's life and give it a clean/shiney look

I dont wash engine bays so I dont know that product

A quick soap and rinse at the local wand car wash is all it needs. It will cause no problem if high pressure is not directed at seams or individual components. I have washed engines that way including the S2000 for many years with no problem.

just try not to drench electrical items such as the alternator and battery.

if youre trying to get rid of heavy oil/dirt buildup, hit it directly with engine degreaser or scrape most of it off by hand before you hit it with water

electrical connector do get dirty too and they do sell electrical component cleaner in spray cans.

simple green on a slighty warm engine, let soak, and rinse with a gentle shower from the garden hose. perfect.
