Default Exhaust Tip Cleaning

I'm trying to clean the outside of the tip on my Greddy ti-c. Its got some gunk pretty baked onto it, and I'm having trouble removing it. I don't want to remove the blue burn tip effect either.

From my research, I'm going to use some steel wool (000) and Brasso. Is this appropriate, or should I go another route? I've tryed using dish soap, and WD40 with no success at all.

Thanks

Does it appear to be oily tar? With the exhaust cold try some lacquer thinner to remove it. Then wash the tips with water/soap and then apply your polish.

I don't know what it is. Its very caked on, whatever it is. The amount of crud on it makes the tip feel very course, as opposed to smooth.
I think its just crud that got kicked up from the rear tires.

I imagine it's petroleum based if simple washing didn't remove it. I would avoid anything abrasive to remove the gunk, try the lacquer thinner on the stuff and see if it cuts it.

You could also try tarminator on a cotton cloth to loosens it up.

Acetone on a rag and let it sit for a few minutes. Then polish it up with a very gentle polish (Mother's Mag Polish is pretty gentle) to keep the blue finish.

Clay bar will also help pick up the baked on crud. That is what I did with my TiC.

Just make sure to fold the clay over often to prevent scratches... and DONT re-use on your paint! haha
