Festool RO 150?
I've nearly built up the nerve to put a power tool to my paint...I still have a hard timesaying it out loud.
I do a fair bit of woodworking and I have a Festool RO 150 random orbit sander (http://www.festoolusa.com/ProductDet...&prodid=571494). The specs say the speed runs from 240-560 rpm and the eccentric motion is 2000-5600 orbits per minute. No actual application on a search. Can I use this, or should I purchase a car-specific machine?

you prob could use it...
just keep the speeds low at first. might be worth trying- the pads that you would get for it would likely also work with the porter cable which most of us use- i would certainly be interested in seeing your review of it cause i dont know anyone who uses thaqt machine.
btw, the porter cable is also a sander and it started life as one. they found out that it works great as a polisher too!

Where are you located? Maybe someone in your area can test fit a backing plate and pad so you can do a small run with it.
Ahh I just watched the video and it looks like you are going to have a problem getting other pads and plates to work on it because of the trick
vacuuming action built in to the unit.

Check over on autopia - i know this tools has come up over there and some people really like it. It's got more power and ability than the PC, so I think the POTENTIAL lies for quicker paint correction, but also the POTENTIAL for paint damage more closely associated with a rotary.
