first time polish
over the weekend i did my first polish job.
just had a few questions on observing my job.
i was using a new pad which worked really well in the beginning. but by the time i got the end of the whole vehicle
i felt that the pad was not cutting as well.
is this becuase the pad needs to be cleaned? i noticed polish started to cake around the edges. i felt like i had to add more polish toward the end for the polish to work well.
any help or suggestions?
thanks

What polish are you using? Some like to dry up faster than others, leaving a very short work time. While others love to be worked and worked, massaging the paint towards luster.
Try spraying some quick detailer on the pad before adding your product. Also, be aware of the tempature of the car as the heat will work against you.
If your still having problems, work a smaller area at a time.
The pads only need to be cleaned car to car.

You should clean the buffing pad as you go.

Besides knowing how to clean your pad on the fly you also need to remember to clean your pad often, usually after every other application of product to the pad. That is, apply some product to your pad and work it to a section. Wipe off the spent residue and either re-clean the area or move onto a new area. After a second application of product to the pad and after you've worked it to a section, now clean your pad. This is cleaning your pad every other application of product to the pad. You can clean your pad after every application if you like too. Most people don't clean their pads often enough, so err on the side of caution. Cleaning your pad often maximizes your effectiveness and thus your speed and quality of end result.[/quote]

I used that pad on my car recently and I cleaned it about half way through the car , I took a break after doing about half of the car on the upper surfaces, cleaned that pad and went at it a bit after that after the pad was pretty dry. It seemed to work well enough for me, I used it with Menzerna micropolish. Maybe you were using too much polish ?, I used 2 quarter sized drops per section and it worked well over the entire car, wasn't too much or too little. I had no caking of the product.
