So i am on my 3rd lambs wool mit now. each one i get ends up deteriorating after about a month. After each wash, i always wash and rinse out the mit thoroughly to get all the soap out, then let it hang dry until next time. they still end up falling apart after 3 or 4 times of using it.

am i buying a poor quality mit? has anyone else experienced this issue?

 

I wash mine in Woolite by hand. I have never had a genuine lambs wool mit come apart like you've described.

 

I do the same as you, wash/ rinse out. I use the Sonus wool mitts and have had them a number of years now.

 

My two mitts are a t least 8 years old by now. I rinse mine out, wring it out and let it dry on a ventilated shelf, that's it.

 

I got the one from DD and its still good after a month and about 6 washes. I do the same procedure you do. Maybe your putting too much pressure when scrubbing the car?

 

Turn your mitt inside out before sitting it out to dry. The woll on the outside insulates the skin from drying. Turning it inside out and placing it in a well ventilated area works best.

I made a small stand, somewhat like a candle stand and slip the mit over the "candle". I then put the stand near the air duct of our home heating/cooling system. In a day it is dry.

 

^ turning mine inside out made it grow mold because then the wool never dries.

 

I rinse mine out really well, wring it out, and let it dry by placing it on a grit guard or sweater rack. I occasionally wash it with micro-restore, and let it air dry. Love it, and will never use a different mitt.

 

just out of curiousity, what kind of soap do you wash you cars with?

 

If you turn the mitt inside out the inside skin dries. If you leave it right side out the wool insulates the skin and it takes longer for the inside to dry, and then it rots.

I turn mine inside out for a couple of days and then right side out to store till the next wash.

No mould and it's two years old and still in great shape. The old ones died in less than a year if I didn't dry them properly and relatively quickly.
