Default glass rear window!

Hello all,
I just got a 2001 s2000. The softtop is in 100% perfect condition although the rear plastic window is cloudy and yellowing. I was curious to know how much it costs to upgrade to the glass rear window. I've heard that it's not just the softtop that you change it's the whole convertible motor. And is it even worth upgrading? the softtop is in immaculate condition, only problem is the window ..

or should i invest money into a hardtop.

thanks!

Hazing and yellowing are probably fixable with some Meguiars Plastx and a lot of elbow grease / buffer.

1st off, the thread title throws this way off.

would you keep the plastic window if you could clean it up?
Try some Meguiar's Plast-X. I think Plexus or 210 might work as well.

Also try looking in the how to section of this board (W&W), I think there is something about cleaning the plastic rear window.

Someone else should chime in shortly, and offer more advice.

Any pics of the window, that would help us give you better suggestions.

<<agree about the title- will change the title

You can buy a "Robbins" soft top with glass that comes with the frame modification so that it can just bolt right up. I don't believe that you have to change the motor or anything like that. The plastic rear window really does suck though. Mine keeps creasing and all get nasty coloring and everything. Definitely will be a really nice upgrade to switch it out to a glass one.

I have an 2001 that I upgraded to a Robbins canvas top with rear glass. If you do this you won't be able to use your boot anymore because the top doesn't fold down quite as far. I paid about $1k installed but you have to shop around. My install was $500 but I got a few quotes for over $1k in labor alone. If your rear plastic is good however I'd recommend cleaning it with Plexus and not waste $$$. Mine was cloudy beyond repair and leaking.

I would prefer to have glass as well, just because having a plastic window shows the car's age (nobody uses plastic anymore). However, I can't justify the expense since I keep my window crystal clear with Novus, PlastX, and Plexus.
