Default Glenn's car back from the dead!

For those of you who don't know Glenn or his car, let me tell you guys a little about him. Glenn has been a member of this website since October 2000. He's the president of the New England S2000 Owners Club (NES2KO) and has been busting his hump to make the New England Nor'Easter meet one of the best meets ever. Glenn starting modding his car several years ago and it hasn't worked out too well for him. His car has barely seen the road over the last three years because it was always non-functional or being worked on. Well, the car seems to be running well now but it wasn't looking too good. He and I were chatting one day and he mentioned he wanted to learn to detail a car and I said I needed a black car to take pictures of for the detailing book I'm writing. It was a match made in heaven. So, here we go . . .

The outside of Glenn's car was DIRTY and the paint was pretty dull. The fenders were all scratched up too from people leaning on them while working on his engine.

The interior wasn't much better. It was very dusty in there. Check out the finger marks in the dust on the dashboard. Plus all the leather & vinyl was super glossy and dirty from years use and treating everything with 303.

First we washed, clayed, and dried the car. Then we did a test spot to see what polish/pad combo would get the job done.

Menzerna IP on a LC orange cutting pad followed by Menzerna FPII on a LC white polishing pad would be the winning combo. Here's Glenn polishing away.

Glenn actually did most of the work on this detail. It was a teaching excercise and he was the student. We also cleaned the wheels with Meguiar's Wheel Brightener and cleaned the wheel wells & tires with Meguiar's Safe D-Greaser. We polished the headlights and cleaned all the glass as well. Oh yeah! We also put a nice healthy coat of DP Max Wax on all the paint. Here's how the exterior turned out . . .

You can see there are no remaining defects in the paint.

Also, it was getting dark but that's Glenn & I reflected in the paint.

The interior was cleaned with Meguiar's APC with a Mr. Clean Eraser except the upholstery which was cleaned with Folex. All the vinyl & rubber was dressed with Poorboy's Natural Look and the leather with Zymol Leather Conditioner. Also, the carbon fiber was polished with Scratch-X and then sealed with DP Max Wax. Here's the interior finished . . .

Glenn was very happy with the finished product and now has a great deal more detailing knowledge than he had before. Teach a man to fish . . . blah blah blah. The whole deal was a win for me as well because I took plenty of pictures. For those of you getting a copy of my book at the Nor'Easter you'll notice Glenn's car is featured prominantly in several chapters.

Oh yeah! We also cleaned his engine bay with Safe D-Greaser and dressed it with CD2.

Meguiar's Safe D-Greaser can be bought a lot of places. I think I bought mine from Autogeek.net. CD2 Engine Detailer on the other hand is VERY hard to find. They used to sell it at AutoZone and if you're lucky you can find a location that still has a few cans. Sometimes you can also find it at local auto parts chains. Otherwise there is one place that sells it on-line. Do a google search and you'll find it.

As for what you need to know about cleaning the engine bay, just do a search for Bass' "how to detail your engine bay" thread. I pretty much follow the same technique.

I saw Glenn's car for the 1st time in yrs this past weekend I'll vouch for that engine bay it was squeeky clean. While i did not see the exterior in person before the detail i saw it after and it was clean as can be for an 00 bb. Here is another pic of the side of the car from this past weekends cookout cruise. Glenn's car is the 1st one in the pic with Mugen ht
