Default "Gunk" Removal

Hello Everyone,

The members of this forum are the best of any I've read, so I figured I'd post this here over anywhere else. This "gunk" isn't on the S2000, but I trust you guys know as well as any other group how to get it off my paint.

I am not sure what this "gunK" is, but if you can imagine stretched out chewing gum, with the sticking power of super glue and the consistency of a very hard rubber. It's a whitish/gray color and is located right behind the front tire, clearly kicked up from the ground.

I've tried goo-gone, WD-40, tar remover chemicals, and washed it several times with no success. I'm afraid that trying to pick or pry it off might take the underlying paint with it.

Any tips for products that might get this stuff off would be GREATLY appreciated. As you guys understand, I really don't want to pay $$$ for some detail shop to do what I could have done myself.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Dan

I used Stoner's Tarminator to remove some NASTYYY fresh tar off my truck... Worked wonders. I've heard Peanut Oil can take off gum and stuff (Didn't remember where I was reading this), but you could try that...

JoeyB - Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried clay bar.......no luck.

Jaeden - I'll Google the Tarminator product and give it a whirl.

I'm also open to any other suggestions.

Thanks!!!

You might try a hair drier or a heat gun to loosen it and then try your chosen cleaner.

BE CAREFUL with the heat gun... You can really mess up your paint that way....

Alright, after about 30 minutes of work all the junk is officially gone.

I used a hair dryer (it's her's, I swear) and a combination of WD-40 and Meguiar's Quick Detailer spray.

I zapped the problem areas with the hair dryer for about a minute, but some a little longer, then applied a little WD-40 and scrubbed it with what was formerly a clean towel. After a few rounds of this the whole area looks great. It was definitely a combination of tar and maybe something else. The brownish/black color is unmissable on my towel.

Thanks for the input guys, it worked PERFECTLY!
