Default Looking for a step by step

Hey All

So I have a PC, I've got multiple glazes, sealants, polishes, a #5 Fine Cut Cleaner (Meguiars), waxes, a few different pads for the PC and a ton of microfiber towels. I think I've got all the supplies but I've yet to be truly impressed with a swirl-free finish after I'm done. I'm sure I'm not doing what I should be and I've gone through the multiple guides and the HUGE detailing guide published by MikeyC and I'm still finding myself at a loss. I've also watched the videos outlining technique and product usage on a couple sites linked on here, but I always feel lost because I don't have the specific product that they describe using.

I'm feeling pretty stupid but I console myself by remembering that I have the toughest color to work with. I still feel a little dumb

Has anyone done a step by step for Berlina Black paint resoration including pad matchups with type of product (ie use standard Mother's or Meguiar's glaze, not "use Menerza Fine Cut P39XOE9938457")? I just want to know that how many steps to take to go from a paint job that has swirl marks and the odd scratch into the clearcoat (not deep to the paint).

I know this is a brutally generic and lengthy request perhaps but the hours and hours I've spent reading everything I can has resulted in more confusion and I need to be taken by the hand

Thank you in advance!!

From what I know, detailing is more about practice and learning through experience than what can be taught through text. Sure you can get the general idea but things like pressure and speed can only be communicated so well. Do you have a beater that you could practice on?

There's your problem, Mother's or Meguiar's glaze isn't going to help

List your products. Something tells me you don't have what you need.

Lemme shoot home from the office a little later and I'll list everything I have.

This is exactly the type of hand-holding that I need on this one To be honest, I've had some of the (what I would consider to be) higher end products in the past and I've run out. So all that's left is the mainstream stuff like M's & M's. Still got a nice big jug of Zymol, but that's because I've been skeptical of its performance so I haven't used it up.

Thanks for the help!

mikeyb-
also be sure to spend some time in our how tos section of the board... at the top of the w&w
and nothing beats my usual suggestion to post up in your local forum on this board to see if someone can provide the know-how if you provide products and refreshments...

--and hard to beat menzerna polishes on a black car--

if you gotta go glaze, i would go 3m glaze for black cars- but best choice is to get the menzernas and have someone show you how they do it.

-----
darn, forgot my wacko pitch-
be sure to get some good pics when you do the job and post em up... then pm me and i will take down the badge that i am reserving for you!!

You know, I've spent so many hours watching videos on all kinds of detailing sites and I think I've watched every single video that has ever been linked on here whether it's about washing, PC use, product instructions, etc etc. That's why I feel foolish, for not being able to put the pieces together. Sure, I could go out and pick up a complete product lineup from one company along with the complete spectrum of LC pads and just copy the online videos exactly, but I don't feel like spending another couple hundred bucks on products right now.

I'm hoping to get some decent results with as few more product purchases as possible - though I might have to scrap that if you guys tell me that all I have left is crap

If I can get some results that I'm proud of this weekend, I will definitely be posting them up. Unfortunately I too live in one of the driest places in North America so by the time I get the car out of the garage it's already covered in a light layer of dust. I'm going to wash my dust cover tomorrow and start using it again.

This thread will at least show you what your BB car can look like.

Mikey! You're right, we live in a dry dry dry city. There is dirt and dust everywhere, I end up washing my car upwards of 4x a week nowadays. The worse is when it rains...... the rain and the dust and dirt is the worst combo ever.

I am a newbie with the PC too, lemme know how your car turns out.

Alright! Here is my product list:

Pads:
  • White rounded one (screw in, not velcro)
  • Black dimpled one (velcro)
  • 2 x White dimpled ones (velcro)
  • Yellow harsh feeling dimpled one (velcro)
  • Blue soft dimpled one (vecro)
So that's actually not as many as I thought...

Products:
  • Meguiars Deep Crystal System Polish (Step 2)
  • Mothers California Gold Sealer and Glaze (Step 2 of Ultimate Wax System)
  • Meguiar's Mirror Glaze - Professional Fine-Cut Cleaner (Level 5/10 Abrasive)
  • Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Professional - Show Car Glaze (#7)
  • Eagle One Wet Polish & Wax
  • Meguiar's Scratch X - Fine Scratch and Swirl Remover
  • Zymol Original Formula - Cleaner Wax
  • Meguiars NXT Tech Wax Paste
So that list is a lot shorter than I thought...I'm out of so much stuff I used to have.

Think there's anything useful I can do with my sad little mish-mash of products and pads?

Thanks in advance again!!!
