This should not be a confusing issue. Regardless of what it's made of, it's still painted (clearcoat). Treat it like you do the rest of the car. Wash it when it needs it and wax (or Zaino) it as you would the rest of the car's paint.

What if the clearcoat appears to be fading in a few spots? Is there another process other than waxing (or re-clearcoating the hood), or products out there to use? Thanks.

good question. of which a proper body shop will and should be able to "re-clear coat" as you mention. I've been told, they use a process similar to wet sanding, and then apply, bake it, and this build its back up and restores it.

4motto-
are you sure its clear coat fade? (pretty rare)
got pics???

i am guessing that it could be oxidation that you are seeing- clay or polish would fix that, but again we need lotsa good pics to tell!

I haven't gotten a definitive answer on this yet and I think it probably varies between manufacturers, but I *THINK* most CF hoods are in fact gel coats (what they use on boats) and not clearcoats.

Might explain why so many people have fading and hazing on their CF hoods - gel coat seems to be prone to oxidizing, unlike clearcoat.

I'd try some Klasse All In One (AIO) on that hood, via PC, followed up by a good coat of heavy, durable wax like Meguiar's #16 (if you have it) or another product that will provide for good environmental and UV protection.

I'll try to take some pics. I just put the hood on yesterday. It's only in certain lights that it shows the fade (and some swirls).

So here are some pics of the hood from a few different angles.

But from some other angels it doesn't look too bad at all.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA.

BTW... I'm still messing aroung with the gap.
