Default Mr Clean Magic Eraser

Sean,

You really need to post occasionally on Autopia. The advise given on that site is sometimes questionable (based on the things you've said) but unfortunatly I can't refute it. But I digress... In one Autopia post, A detailer recommends use of
Magic Eraser and woolite.

Currently, I am using the Leather Institutes Cleaner and CCP exclusively on my cars. However, what are your thoughts / opinions on using the Magic Eraser in conjunction with yor cleaner for those trouble areas? I must claim ignorance since I have never bought a magic eraser so I have no idea what it is, what it is made of or how it works.

I'm 99% sure Sean will get back to you and say the Magic Eraser should not be used on leather. If you read the box it says not to use the eraser on painted surfaces. If it's not safe for paint it's DEFINITELY not safe for leather. FWIW, the eraser is great for removing scuffs & ground in dirt on plastic surfaces.

Personally, I spend a lot of time on Autopia and Detail City because I love learning and talking about detailing. There are a lot of yahoos on the site along with experts. Also, there are a lot of "pro" detailers who just want to get a car done quickly without thought to long term effects. Whenever you read these sites make sure you don't take every post as gospel.

Agreed !! When I first got into detailing I tended to to get swayed easily. Fortunately, I have tried a lot of things and learned a lot of things. Unfortunately most of my posts on sites like Autopia get ignored ( no credibility I guess). I wanted to get some good info from Sean because of all the stuff I have read on Autopia, leather care seems to be extremely weak!

I am planning on getting the tech specs on the product asap, but in the meantime I am 99.99% sure it is no good for leather. It will either strip the finish off as it is used or weaken the leather fibers themselves or potentially BOTH.
