Default My First Detail

Over time after reading the wash and wax forum, I decided to fully detail my car. With a few hundred dollars spent on products and questions answered by a fellow S2ki members. I was on my way to detailing my car. Special thanks to CalBear07, for detailing advice and suggestions for the products used for my detailing because all the products I used for the detailing was the products he also used.

Products used:

Mothers Wheel Brush
Mothers Mothers Contoured Tire Brush
Mothers All Wheel Cleaner
Wheel Wax
Two 5 Gallon Buckets
Two Grit Guards
Genuine Sheepskin Mitt
Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo & Conditioner 64 oz.
Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay
Pinnacle Clay Lubricant
Meguiar's #26 Hi-Tech Liquid Car Wax
Windex Window Cleaner
Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer
Lexol Leather Cleaner Wipes A
Lexol Leather Conditioner Wipes

The whole process took me about 5 hours and it was well worth it. I'm really impressed with the shine, and I'm hoping to add another coat of wax tomorrow.

They're not the best pictures, but what do you guys think? Am I worthy of a wash and wax badge?

Thanks for the comments. How should I take care of the car after my detail? So after I give it a regular wash, do I go over it with a quick detailing spray?

I usually wash mine, and then wax it after wards, just to keep the protection.

Great detail, its hard to make a white car look good.

Try to stay away from Windex as it contains ammonia and can discolor tint.

Save yourself some money and skip the Pinnacle clay lube, any cheap QD will do.

Over the weekend I washed my car, and I was wondering how do you know when you have to re wax your car again? The finished looked just as good as when I waxed it a week and a half ago.

When the wax is in good condition, water will bead on the surface. If water no-longer beads, then its time for wax. Of course, you really should reapply the wax before it needs attention. Depending on your climate, and type of wax used. You can go a month, to a few months.

Personally, I live in a hot, humid climate. I use Wolfgang sealant, which lasts about 4 months in the hottest months. So as long as I reapply before then, I'm good to go.

You use Meguiar's #26 Hi-Tech Liquid Car Wax, which I think is a sealant, so you can probably go a few months as well.
If the wax you use is carnuba based, you need to reapply more often, like, weekly/monthly depending on use.

Some people run a sealant, then run a carnuba on top of the sealant. The carnuba brings out the deepness of the color, and by layering the products, you get color depth and longevity.
