Default Need some quick info.

Hello wash and wacko gurus,

I no longer own an s2k but I feel that you guys offer great info and feedback. I just bought a black 03 IS300 and I don't think it has been kept up on detailing since ownership. I just bought a Polisher kit that comes with Sonus SFX polishers and pads. This will be the first time detailing a car with a porter cable.

My question is, is it ok to use SFX-1 Restore polisher on the whole car, then go over with SFX-2 on the whole car? or should I choose really bad areas to use SFX-1 then go over the whole car with SFX-2?

Thanks,
John

IMO, you'll only want to use the more abrasive stuff when you need them. On parts of the car that have less damage, you should go with the less abrasive polish and go more aggressive if need be. That way you'll minimize the amount of clear you'll have to remove.

In spots that I use less abrasive polish, if it doesn't remove the swirls/ scratches and I move on to the more abrasive polish, do I need to go back with the less abrasive polish after again? or is it done after the more abrasive polish?

Also same for if I start off with more abrasive first, do I need to go over the same spot with the less abrasive afterwards?

Thanks

You should think of it like sanding a piece of wood. You start with heavy grit to get it to the right shape and then progressively decreased the abrasiveness to create a perfectly smooth finish.

The others are correct in stating you work least aggressive to more aggressive...in order to find out what works to remove the swirls/scratches. Then work to perfect the finish with less abrasive pads/polishes.

I would also just do a small part of the car first to see how your progressions come out, then proceed with the rest of the car.
