Default Ooops --- bodydamage...

Well the wife has had the new 2005 S2000 (Rio-Yellow) for all of about a month and a little over 600 miles..... Today she rear-ended a Toyota Highlander. Basically the S2K went under it and now I need body work....

Luckily she was only doing about 3-5 MPH when it happened. It looks like we're talking a new hood, front bumper cover, 1 headlight and both quarter panels.....

Any recommendations on where to take it to get it fixed? Is the dealer the place to go? Also, -- I assume I can demand that all parts that are damaged are REPLACED with new HONDA parts and not "fixed".

My cousin (a mechanic for a FORD dealership) looked it over and said it's all basically just minor body damage and a couple pieces (the quarter-panels) may be able to be fixed. My feeling is that it's brand new so the parts should be "brand new" and not "fixed"...

Anyway -- any recommendations where to take it would be appreciated..

THanks

I think the insurance company will decide whether or not to let you have new parts. Unless you pay, it's not your decision. You can "request"(that is with a $100 bill) for the body shop to tell the insurance company that you need all new panels. Try to get the estimator to sympathize with your loss and convince him that new body panels are the way to go.

I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope everything works out okay.
Good Luck,
Barrett.

wow, didnt even get to experience vtec yet?!!!
1. cant tell where you are so can answer your question as to where to take it...
you might also want to post this question in your local club from this board
2. and as incubus indicates it will be up to the insurance co- just check to see what appeal rights you have.
if you can fix your profile (from the "mys2k" link above) to indicate where you are it would be easier for us to help out-

Well I took it to the insurance adjuster today and got the bad/good news..... (It depends on how you look at it...) The guys said it was a very minor accident, I was lucky, and it was just "body damage"...... Price? $4200 worst case scenario. He said basically every body part in front of the doors needs to be replaced (quarter panels, hood, bumper cover, some bumper supports, some cross brace and both headlights). He said one headlight might be okay but it was hard to tell without pulling everything apart....

I found a body shop close to me after reading the forum for my area.... Pie's auto body in Ellicott City MD. I'm dropping it off next Tuesday... They should have it for a week or so they said....

Oh well --- it could have been worse and nobody got hurt so I guess I'm lucky.

Thanks for the responses....

That's just good news man. My brother wrecked my one month old S2000 on December 24th of 2000. I want to say the damage was closer to 6000 for my car. You get new body panels like you wanted, and one week is better than the one month I was without my car. A tip I learned is never accept the car late on a Friday afternoon. They used to call me to come in at closing time, hoping I would just take the car even if there were some mistakes. I'd make them stay until I could really look the car over. Good luck with the body work!

Dude!
My wife drove the S TWICE and both times she boned up the front end by trying to cozy up to the wheel stops.
"It's just a car", she says.
