Default An open question

Recently, a very helpful moderator here expressed dismay that I would use a cloth dampened with water on my leather seats. But the Lexol directions say to apply the leather cleaner on a cloth dampened with water, after which it should be removed with a cloth dampened with water.

Then, Lexol suggests applying their leather conditioner with a cloth first dampened with water. So I conclude that using a cloth dampened with water is okay on our leather seats.

What is the consensus about this?

I wipe off with a damp cloth, but I do try to dry the seat with another dry cotton towel quickly afterward.

From what I have heard, getting leather wet is not a problem. But if it doesn't dry properly, then that's a problem.

that moderator was probably concerned that you might be using saddle soaps-
which can cause the leather to crack...
or that you might be just wiping off the leather with a damp cloth (he thinks thats what you posted!)- a damp cloth is o.k. in the cleaning phase with a leather cleaning product (which is then wiped off and then dried).

he probably was also concerned that you might use a wet cloth instead of a damp one for the conditioning phase. in fact, he uses a dry cloth for conditioning.

if you are using a damp (i dont use water with my leather products, but do know that a light damp cloth should be fine) cloth, you are probably o.k.- just be sure to dry the leather with a separate cloth after the washing process (pretty sure the lexol instructions say this too).

interesting question, as i dont use any water with the townsend leather products...
good post, and thanks for bringing this up- good to get things clarified!
