P21s vs. S100
o.k.- the answer doesnt get much more complete than this...

"In regards to your question about P21S and S100 wax, it is generally well known that the P21S and S100 product lines are manufactured/imported by BIS Smartparts in Conneticut. The S100 product line is specific to motorcycles, whereas P21S is made for and marketed to car owners. I cannot tell you for a "fact" that the two wax formulas are the same. If a manufacturer changes a single ingredient, they can honestly say they are different. Fragrance and color and ingredients. Let's not be naive. Does anyone really believe Honda motorcycle rims need a different cleaner than Honda S2K rims? Likewise, I find the S100 wax and P21S wax are comparable in quality. That said, why is there a difference in price? That's simple. Car enthusiasts and motorcycle enthusiasts like to believe that a product is designed to take special care of their toy. BIS Smartpart caters to this emotional buying decision, and reduces buyer confusion, by having two distinct product lines. You will find S100 products in more than 60% of all motorcycle shops throughout the US, including most Harley Davidson retailers. This product line is exceptionally well-known, and loved, by motorcycle enthusiasts. The S100 line is priced to be competitive with other motorcycle care brands. It is the premium motorcycle product. To my knowledge, S100 represents about 80% of BIS Smartpart's business, which means the volume is much higher than P21S. Likewise, P21S is priced to compete with premium auto care brands, including Zymol and Pinnacle. Comparatively, P21S is a great deal (it blows all Zymol waxes away at a fraction of the price). With a lower volume of sales on P21S, the cost of packaging and marketing goes way up. The P21S line does not have anywhere near the penetration into car dealerships that S100 has with the motorcycle retailers. While this may not justify the cost difference to many buyers, it is a reasonable business justification for BIS Smartparts. There is some rumor (just rumor) that BIS Smartpart may stop making the S100 paste wax in favor of a spray or cream product that is more in line with how most cycle owner like to care for their machine (spray, wipe... GO!).

David"
