Default paint chipping

It seems like every time I wash my car I find new places on the hood/bumper where rocks have it and chipped off tiny pieces of paint. Maybe it stands out worse on silverstone for some reason, but its worse than any other car ive ever had. I hate to use touch up paint because IMHO it looks like shit and never matches. How do you guys deal with this?

i dont have any paint chips, as i got tired of dealing with oil stains on the front of my car... i found that if you are too close to the car in front of you, you will pick up whatever is coming from the back of that car (rocks, unburned gas, etc.). with our cars it is easy enough to pass from several car lengths behind just about any other car.
so thats how, in 2 years, i have kept the front end of my car new- (by staying away from the rear of other cars)...

Wanabe,

Do you stay away from our canyon runs too?

I definitely follow the same logic in everyday driving, but I can't seem to avoid some rock chips when I go on canyon runs with some of the local S2k freaks!

PS - For paint chip repair, do a search on "air brush". There was a thread on how air brushing rock chips gave better results than using the touch-up paint brush method.

There is no remedy except not to get chips in the first place. Get 'em fixed and then look into StonGuard. I found it by searching in the forums. It's not cheap, but it really works.

Paint chips are pretty much a fact of life for all new car owners now. I was talking to the manager of a bodyshop and he told me that the new paints that are used on cars are very thin now. The old stuff was a lot better, but did more damage to the environment.
