Default Paint Job

Hey guys,

MY02' BB is looking her age. Apparently the previous owner liked to hit tons of stones and use paper towels to dry the car after he washed it. Anyways, I was going to try to restore the paint myself. However, I live in the dust bowl of the US and have no garage or tools or experience. So I was looking at a repaint because I love the car to death but the paint is pissing me off to no end. I looked at their website and the Signature is a basecoat with a urethane clear coat. I didn't get a price yet but I don't want to get into the retardedly high $2500+ realm. It's a 7 year old car and that wouldn't be very smart. I already posted in the CenCal forum and no one wants to help me tackle this project if I do a paint restore. So my question to you is this: Is this Maaco Signature any good or is it a waste of money. Also, if anyone near Fresno reads this and wants to help, let me know!

Thanks!

I could probably scrounge up a few pics when I get home for the weekend. Don't really know anyone out here in Fresno. I went to one of our local gatherings but no one has a facility to do it at :-(

I am envious of your dust free existence too Wanabe; I've visited Manhattan and Redondo beach a few times and it is gorgeous there!

I live in Arizona. LOL, I think all dust in the country starts out here.

I've heard nothing positive about Maaco's work quality, so personally, I will never offer them my business.

grab a polisher and get to work, wet the ground all around you for less dust, make sure it stays moist and get to work! I would pick a COMPLETELY trashed paint job that was "SOME WHAT" restored over a MAACO paint work any day. My goodness i've seen some horrid work they do that chips exposing old paint when I was a tech.

STAY AWAY. You better off polishing in dusty place, WHICH CAN BE DONE BTW. Other wise people will be telling you... "nice car...Hey is it resprayed?" because it'll look that bad.

1) Wet the ground all around you before you wash the car
2) Before polishing what ever panel it is, go over it with quick detailer to get rid of any settled dust since there is so much of it as you claim "Btw I detailed my car just fine in AZ many times".
3) Keep the ground wet throughout the whole process. Just dont stomp around and get it all over the car. lol

Yeah, AZ is probably worse than CA for dust. I'm gonna go the polishing route first. I'll do a search and look for some good stuff!!

Thanks for replies!

The most important part of painting - anything - is prep. If you don't sand and smooth and prep the surface to pain, the result looks bad. A respray done anywhere will not look as good as a properly prepped paint job with good clearcoat.

AZ isn't bad for detailing cars, it just sucks because as soon as you drive a mile the car is dirty again.
