Why? I apply sealant to my head/tail lights and right over my emblems. (I have the JDM ones so they are filled)

I'm trying to think of something that I need to tape off when applying sealant but I can't come up with anything.
Hmm. Perhaps you are right/I am wrong. Do you apply sealant to rubber trim around the antenna base or the black piece of trim around the above the trunk where the meets the convertible top?

It might be warm here on Sunday. Perhaps I can clay and apply sealant to my car this weekend.
All the cars I've used powerlock on I haven't taped off. I have actually removed tape after polishing before applying the sealant. It actually gives the trim a nice matte finish and I'm assuming adds some protection as well. Powerlock doesn't turn white as it dries either.

Now wax I would not allow to get on trim pieces.

Yeah. I've had bad experiences with wax and trim and as a result assumed that I should take the same caution with sealants. Good to know.

I agree with this, but I just steer clear of everything I don't want the buffer to touch when I'm applying sealant. I just go back over the areas close to the antenna or other small tight areas by hand. I feel that doing it what way is still faster than taping everything off.

Thanks for all of the great replies, I never thought of touching it up with UQW, I may try that out and see how it works.

FWIW, a friend of mine put one of the Zaino spray sealant products on my car last season and it had an electrostatic effect, it attracted dust like mad just sitting in my closed garage, it was very odd.

Most sealants don't need any special considerations with regards to trim and gaps. Definitely with wax-containing products that can leave a white residue, you need to be careful.

I most always tape for a machine buffing. It's worth the extra time.

I was thinking of start using Powerlock sealants now. Never worked with sealants before or claying a car, was wondering if I was going to clay my car, should I polish the car after I clay then apply the Powerlock? My car isn't in any bad shape, I would rather stay away from polishing cause 1: don't have a polisher and 2: have no experience in polishing haha, is it ok if I just clay and then apply the sealant?

sure you can clay and seal without polishing. I polished mine because I had lots of swirls. Polishing was a lot of work for me, hopefully I don't have to do it again for a few years, so now I can just clay and seal on a regular basis.

You can: Wash, clay, wash, dry, sealant.

You can: Wash, dry, clay, sealant.
Yup.

2nd washing is really optional and IMO not necessary.
