I think it depends on the lubricant that you use.

now just wondering, is there a certain way to clay the car? also never tried it before but want to give it a try. I don't want to mess the paint up. any advice?

Cut it into two sections (or get the Meguiars with 2 blocks) and just keep folding it to a clean side when you get stuff on it. Keep it lubed with detail spray. Work your way down. If you have a HT start there, if not start on the hood then do the trunk. Mirrors. Make sure the front and rear bumper are last because they'll be the worst. You can clay your glass as well if you want.

It's a pretty general skill. You can search Google for articles or YouTube for videos.

I was thinking of giving the car a good wash, and claybar, but I'm debating on whether I need to put another coat of sealant on it this spring.

^yes, i've heard that it removes some wax/sealant... so applying a fresh coat of wax/sealant after claying will be necessary.
