Default Polishing AP2 Wheels

Just had new tires mounted yesterday. The guy that mounted and balanced the tires appeared to have been very careful in doing so but when I got home and took a good look at the wheels, I noticed what appears to be some minor scratching on the part of the wheel close to where the tire and wheel meet.

What polish do you recommend for polishing out the scratches? Are the wheels on a MY 2006 clear coated which could have some bearing on what product might do the best job.

By the way, the Bridgestone RE11's are a lot quieter that the OEM Bridgestones
and seem to grip a lot better than the RE050 tires.

Your assistance would very much be appreicated.

I would try some mother wheel polish. If that dont work then you might need to sand them down and refinsh them.

Between taking care of a Harley and polishing some Boyd Coddington wheels I have on another car, I've done quite a bit of polishing. I use Mother's products to shine things up, but have had very good luck with Blue Magic Metal Polish for polishing out scratches...t just seems to do a bit better job with that. If that doesn't work and you need something even more aggressive, Wenol polishes would be the next option.

All of the product you guys have suggested are for polishing chrome/polished aluminum wheels. Do not use wheel polish on painted wheels unless you really feel like refinishing them. Treated your painted wheels just like you would any painted surface on your car. If the scratch goes through the paint then I would go back to the tire shop and make them pay for a repair.

One of my wheels was scratched by discount tire, and after 3 unsatisfactory refinishing jobs they ended up buying me a new OEM wheel.

I respectfully disagree. I believe 06 wheels are clear-coated aluminum wheels. You CAN polish out a scratch in the clear coat much like you CAN polish out a scratch in the clearcoat of a painted finish provided it is a "clearcoat safe" product...I believe any of the products mentioned are. This is no different than using Meguiar's "Scratch-X" to polish out a scratch in a painted finish, which is a "clearcoat safe" product. Like any other repair of this nature, I would start with the mildest product and work my way up until the point the imperfections are corrected to satisfaction or you no longer feel comfortable trying to correct them. If the scratch is just too deep, then yes, refinishing would be required.
