Default Problem with Oxidized hood

Hey there all as you've seen from my previous posts I plan to work on my parents explorer whos hood is HEAVILY oxidized. It looks like there is a white cloud over the hood and shows no reflection at all. My question is I went over the hood with a UDM/orange LC pad on speed 6 with some Intensive polish to see if it would help anything. It seemed to be working but as the polish broke down the paint seemed like it was "absorbing" the polish and the removal was a royal PITA!!!! I had to claybar the hood over again and wash with dishwashing soap to remove the residue. The results arent as expected, but does anyone know whats going on?? Would using compound do the same thing (as in being absorbed by the paint)??

The white cloud is cause by millions of micro swirl marks.

Menzerna
I've never used this particular product, but I'm sure there are quite a few peeps on this board that have.

We'll have to wait for somebody to chime in.

I don't know if the Turtle wax Liquid Rubbing compound is more abrasive the the Menzerna IP If the TWLRC is NOT more abrasive than the IP, then I don't see the point of getting it, unless of course it is more abrasive

*waits for someone else to chime in*

That sounds very unusual... I've never had any problems with any of Menzerna's polishes, they wipe down pretty easily. The only thing I can think of is that maybe you let the polish sit on the paint for too long afterwards, and it dried..?

Im almost sure that the 3m compound im looking at is more abrasive than the intensive polish. Ive used it plenty of times on my car and other cars with great success. I didnt let the polish sit at all after i went over it with the UDM.

Cool

You could always throw on a yellow cutting pad.

Sounds like the clear coat is gone to me and you are at the oxidized paint level.

That would explain why the polish would not come off.

well I went at it with some 3M compound and the results are alot better than before. But i can totally say that the hood is done for . I tried adding some WG sealant to it and it just hazes up so it looks like Im just going to leave it bare after compounding it Thanks for the help you guys!
