Default PVC Window Cleaner/Scratch Remover

I got all new windows in my house the last couple of days. I know this isn't car related, but with all you gurus in cleaning products I figured I would ask. The window guys haven't cleaned the frames yet, but there seems to be a lot of black marks, some scratches etc. What is the recommended product to use for myself after they have half ass cleaned them.

are you asking for a glass product or for the frames?
if for the frames, what is the material (painted wood, unpainted plastic, etc.)?

any general household cleaner should work well for those pvc frames... 409 or simple green might not be strong enough, depending, but a soft brush might help.

if those products aren't cutting it, some APC - castrol APC, meguiar's APC, purple power - diluted 1:3 or 1:2 (while wearing gloves, mind you) should kick most problems out. the PVC is a pretty well non-reactive material so you should be set with about any product, but test a spot anyway.

Use paint thinner. It would clear marks and chaulk goo off vinyl windows and glass. Just a little on a towel will do. I use to install windows p/t. good luck with that!

If this is black marks on and around the glass, it may be the black sealant that is used to seal the glass to the frames. If so, use a razor knife to score around the frames. Then use windex (or similar) and a razor scraper to remove the black sealant right up to the frames.

Try it, and if this is the case, call the contractor back and tell him/her that they didn't finish the job!

Thanks,
Richard

The marks and some scratches are from installation. Rub marks, caulking, etc. They have cleaned the frames up pretty good. The company gave me some of their product that they use to clean things. Apparently it is very poetent, and the use of to much will cause the pvc to melt if rubbing to hard. PVC seems to scratch easily I can't expect perfection, but obvious marks should have been worked on. This is why I wanted to do the cleaning myself. I can spend more time doing the job right.
