Default Question on NFR paint

My friend has an older NFR and noticed that when he was rubbing hard to buff out some swirl marks that there was red appearing on the cloth. I gave him the Mcguiars glaze since I have been using it with no problem for nearly 4 years.

I have been reading through posts that NFR is coated differently than other colors.

Fortunately the car looks fine since we only saw a bit but I am surprised that it happened.

Can anyone confirm if the NFRs have a clear coat or not ?

Thanks,

If I remember reading correctly from this forum the clear coat is tinted or something strange. Yes it does have a clear coat.
Hopefully some of the pros with NFR experience can chime in.

well here are couple explanations, either he has single stage paint like red NSX first gen did, which would explain paint transfer on to towel, whoever resprayed the car might not have cleared it or it has candy clear on top of base coat (seen this on long beach blue pearl NSX, they have 3 stage paint: primer: base coat and candy blue pearl on top which is what you called tinted clear. could not find info on this paint after quick search but if you post car year and possibly paint code i can call my local paint supplier to find out detail

His is a 2004 NFR.

I was curious on the 2009 NFR as well. I was considering a red s2k for that year down the road.

Thanks,

Many posts in the past have suggested that NFR S2000s had a tinted clear coat and that is what you see when you polish.

ok, looked and did more research. NFR is single stage paint just like on old and new NSX (even though formula red and new formula red differ slightly in color shade).
so there you go, no clear coat on it, just primer and color coat.

have anybody had problems with paint oxidizing?

here is before and after pic of evo with single stage red paint

NFR DOES have a clear coat. Look up Honda paint bulletins from certain years. Some years had tinted clear, some had regular clear. But the bottom line is all NFR cars are clear coated. I know my 2006 has a tinted clear and it's a real pain in the ass to work with.

^^you right guys it does have tinted clear, never heard about it before, i guess you learn something every day.
based on this only SS paint was certain cars with taffeta white color

in my defense. if somebody didnt look at those buletins and was gona polish the car would say its SS paint becouse of paint transfer onto the polishing pad but i dont know if amount of paint on pad would be different or not. i would imagine it would be but if it would be enough to tell. i guess ill wait till we get NFR car to work on
