Can anyone suggest a way to REALLY clean the engine cover. I've tried a number of things with very little apparent improvement and/or some of the red finish actually rubbs off.

did you blow your motor up????? or whats the deal with it being soooo dirty a simple degreaser and soft brush cant fix???
i use some Adams All Purpose Cleaner and a brush,...turn the car on to let it dry and hit it with some engine shine and it looks better than stock off the showroom

 

I've used Spray Nine, doesn't require any scrubbing, comes off clean. If you are getting red residue off the cover it is likely worn out.
