Remove Zaino Before Swirl/Scratch Treatment?
My blk/blk had swirling when I bought it but I Zaino'd anyway rather than remove the swirls first. Since then, a cat has climbed onto (and slid) down part of the front and left behind a few short, nasty scratches (not too deep, I hope, but I'll find out later when I wash the car). My question: Should I start from the beginning again with Dawn to remove the Zaino and then do a 3M Swirl/Scratch remover treatment or simply continuing with the Z5/Z6 treatments and hope they fill the swirls and cat scratches? Thanks for any advice. It seems sometimes like the world is in a conspiracy to screw up my finish and it's making me crazy.

Unfortunately I don't have a garage , merely a car cover and a small shelter to protect from sap/hail. Apparently the cover is an attractive target for cats. I think I'll spray some stinky *cat-away* stuff all over the cover to make it less appealing. Thanks for the response.

question about the swirl/scratch remover: what exactly is it, and how does it work? i have a blk/blk '02, and the swirls are really irritating me. i was thinking of getting it buffed, but if there is another way around it, that would be great. thanx!

racer, i'll be able to tell you in a week or so. I ordered the 3M Swirl & Scratch Remover For Dark Cars and am planning on getting the Porter Cable polisher. My '02 black on black also came with pretty widespread swirling/spidering. Some folks say that's inevitable with black cars but I'm gonna try my best to get them out. I can't tell you precisely how it does what it does but it comes highly recommended from alot of site members so all I care is it does what it promises to do. I'll post back results on fixing the cat scratches and whether it removed the swirling. I have a friend with a Saturn with lots of swirls who said I could practice on his first.

bash-
i have a black car... two years old and minimal swirls-
i am the only one who has ever touched the paint surface. no one else has washed it.
personal care can keep swirls off.
racer chick-
swirl remover actually has very small grit in it- so it sort of "sands off" a very thin layer of your clear coat... no problem, but you dont want to use it too often.
