Removing deeper scratches
I tried scatch-x, 3m rubbing compound, and meguiars paint cleaner. I have a couple of scratches that these will not remove. what products do people use for deeper scratches. BTW, they do not go thru the paint/ no bare metal.
can you catch a nail on the scratch?
choices would be fine cut or rubbing compounds, depending on how deep-
forget the paint cleaner and scratch-x on this one...
you will haze the paint with any compound, so you have to step down to a finer product after using a compound, until you get to a swirl remover, paint cleaner, or glaze as your last step.

yup- your 3m is a good compound...
dont compound the same way you do swirl removal- its a more aggressive product- like sandpaper in liquid form almost!
good article here- the compounding part is about half way down the page:

Realize not every scratch can be removed. You may be able to lesson its appearance however. Polishes round out the corners of a scratch making them catch less light.
You have a layer of clear coat on top of a color coat. Say for instance your scratch is just in the clear coat right to the color coat. To get rid of that scratch you need to remove the entire clear coat area around the scratch to get rid of it. Some things you'll just have to learn to live with. Sorry.

good point ubetit-
thats why i like to finish up with a glaze after compounding...
glazes also have some filler in them, so they fill what you cant remove.
removing the edges of a scratch robs the scratch of its reflectivity which then makes it almost invisible...
