I feel like I read quite a bit about UDMs failing.

I really like the flex, but am looking at getting a rotary. I've used a UDM for the past two years, and I've got my pros and cons about it. It works really well, but I have a HORRIBLE time with mine vibrating. It was one of the first ones they came out with, and had the wrong size counter-weight. Last I looked into it, they were charging for the new one (Or didn't even make a new one. I can't remember).

Any recommendations for a rotary? I think I'm done with Orbitals.

You're probably going to find out that this is like asking people what their favorite flavor of ice cream is. Everybody has one.

I use a Makita and like it a lot. It just feels "right." The placement of the controls, the slow start feature, the handle, it's a really well engineered tool. And it's built like a tank. Popular for a reason. Yesterday, though, I held a Flex rotary in my hands, and am intrigued. 2lb didn't sound like a lot to me until I picked the Flex up. A 25% reduction in weight is a lot. I didn't get to do any polishing with the flex, but may do so soon.

One thing I know I don't like about the Flex is the noise. All polishers are pretty loud, but the noise the Flex makes is kind of high pitched. If you wear earbuds while polishing, though, it probably won't be an issue.

I might look into getting the flex rotary in the near future. Might go around town to some of the so-called "Detailing" shops to see what they use, and just to feel them out. Thanks for the advice guys.
