Default rookie, noob question

I purchased an '04 suzuka yesterday. So today I started cleaning out the inside and ran into some issues when cleaning the seats...I bought meguiar's gold class rich leather cleaner/conditioner. Hopefully this is good? (I apologize for not doing my research on the forum first, but i was excited to get started!) Anyway, the seats seem to be somewhat of a rough surface and I stupidly used polishing clothes. The cloth started to come apart a bit on the seats. What kind of applicator should I be using for the seats, and is the meguiars ok? Are my seats supposed to be a little rough surfaced, or did the person who owned the car before not take care of them at all? Thanks for the help!

first off, congrats on the purchase.

second, have a look here https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=221878

generally, i like to use a microfiber applicator. foam applicators will work as well.

meguiar's is ok, but not great. usually you don't want a cleaner/conditioner all in one. use a product such as lexol leather cleaner and leather conditioner.

parts of the seats are rough, but other areas are soft. more specifically, the side bolsters are a bit rougher than the rest of the seats.
