paint is pretty thin...

guess your gonna need this link (the whole thread) for the paint!

dont recall a glass thread... but for glass its usually a polish job (use glass polish with the pc), and if the chip is too deep polish can help but wont remove it. there are resin fillers, but they are not easy to use (last time i tried anyway).

hey wanabe, do you think that method works for fixing key marks too? its the same concept as the rock chips... but they're just longer in form...

I love reading through that thread. I don't know how many times I've looked though it. He did an amazing job. I have a few rock chips on my hood and bumper, but I'll probably end up getting an AP2 bumper anyway and new hood, so for now I just deal with them.

Still, that's an awesome thread. It really shows the power of the PC and the proper application.

thanks wanabe, i kinda wanna try it at home, i have a spare painted celica spoiler lying around that i could experiment on, but have no PC or any polishing compounds. the reason i ask is coz my gf's car has a key mark and i was interested in knowing if i could get rid of it in a cost-effective way.

Luckily I haven't had my S keyed. I have a Silverstone Accord that suffered a keying though and I had mixed results on using a paint pen on it...mostly because silverstone is tough to matchup right.

If it's just a surface scuff on the clearcoat (can't catch a fingernail on it), I would just give it a multi pass PC/sfx1 yellow pad/menzerna IP.

If you actually see metal, like in most paintchip hits, using a paintpen, waiting five-ten hours, then use clay to level would/does work. Then you just use the PC to blend.

If it is in deep cut, your option is again going to a paintpen, then clay level. Notice I am recommending clay over sandpaper. The trick is you don't want the paint to harden to the point the clay is ineffective...which is normally 5-10 hours. Once it hardens up, you have to go to the wetsanding method. Remember to turn the clay twice as often as normal as the paint trapped in it will gouge the finish.

thetz99, i dont believe i saw metal. so paintpen and clay to level out the paint it is. i'm assuming i use the clay the same way as normal (QD lube+ clay)
ooo i'm excited! i hate wet sanding! lol!! i also hate clearcoating stuff!

That's not what I want to hear...

Oh well, I don't have too many chips that won't go away when I get a new bumper anyway. But there are a handful on the hood that I will probably tackle. I really would like to not have to buy a new hood.

Any tips on trying to tackle the silverstone? Perhaps the a way to apply it? And will different combinations of pads/polishs have a different effect on the paint?
