Default Scratch removal

I just need a few thoughts, from people who have experience on this....I have a scratch on the trunk about 18 inches long.It is kind of faint, where you have to looking from an angle. It doesn't look like it got deep into the clearcoat. In the sunlight,it also barely noticeable.I bought the Scratch Doctor to take it out. What steps would i have to take.(And yes,i did search this subject on here)Thank you.

I would talk to a professional detailer. I dont have much faith in some of the products on the market which claim scratches can be removed easily with their "magic" products. I tried some and they were a waste of money. Just my opinion but it looks like it could be fixed by a pro. Good luck.

from what you describe, you can do it with a porter cable and a more aggressive polish (sometimes called a "compound" and pads... start there then "step down" to less aggressive polish and pads.
its only the scratches that get into the metal that need repaint, in my experience.
my daughter just ran into a wall with her new car - lotsa scratches. i got it looking almost new again. the ones i couldnt get were the ones down to the metal. she was happy with the results. you can do this too.
dont know about scratch doctor- do you have details on it?
i would just use a good line of polishes-

example of a compound:

maybe better for our cars is this one (as long as the rest of your paint isnt trashed):

you could step down to this after compounding:

I think that the Scratch Doctor may work but you need to be persistant. To my knowledge these products are just mild liquid rubbing compounds. You can do it by hand or use any machine to speed up the process.
